Description: Symptoms of jaundice are: yellowish color of body tissues, yellowish color to eyes, skin, mouth gums and genital organs. Jaundice is an indicator to the presence of other illnesses. For example, jaundice may indicate the destruction of red-blood cells which is caused by parasitic infection.

Contributing factors: Levels of bilirubin (breakdown of red blood cells) are elevated in the body, causing a yellow color to the pet’s skin, white of the eyes, along the guns. Three known causes of jaundice are: prehepatic, (red blood cells break down) hepatic (disease causing liver cell destruction) and postheptic (bile duct becomes obstructed) Jaundice is not a disease but rather an indicator a disease is active.
