hip-dysplasia
Description: Hip dysplasia is a hereditary degenerative joint disease affecting the hip joint, which is a ball and socket joint at the top end of the thigh bone (femur). Large and medium sized dogs are more prone to hip dysplasia. Hip dysplasia occurs when the ball (femur) no longer snugly fits into the hip socket, causing stress on the joint. Eventually the stress leads arthritis / degenerative joint disease. Some common symptoms to watch for are: your pet is less active, stiffness first thing in the morning, avoids or has difficulty with stairs, difficulty getting up or lying down or sitting straight, limps after exercise, light clicking popping sound from hip area.
