Description: The anal glands (anal sacs) are located on ether side of the anus. The anal sacs secrete a foul smelling odor when discharged, which is usually the result of fear, marking territory or when having a bowel movement.

Contributing factors:
Similar to a skunk, dogs have scent glands also, known as anal scent glands. When a dog is startled, they will often drop their anal scent glands, and boy does it stink. Anal scent glands are prone to obstruction and can develop abscesses. The cause of obstruction can be contributed to constipation, poor diet and or lack of exercise. It is not uncommon to see a dog drag it's butt along the lawn, or worse yet along you carpet when anal glands are affected.

Herbal Treatment: Some herbs that may form part of a formula are: Improve pets diet, preferably a natural raw diet. Give snacks that are rich in high fibre. Some are helpful herbs Dandelion, German Chamomile, Yarrow, Lavender
