History

The history of Folk remedies dates back to the ancient Egyptians and other civilizations and cultures since. These remedies incorporate a wide range of herbal treatments, concoctions made from plant and animal parts, spiritual healing, everyday products and chemicals, poultices, bloodletting, witchcraft, superstition and everything in between. When it comes to home remedies, there is no such thing as quality control. Remember, it is buyer beware. Nonetheless, there are some good remedies that have stood the test of time and worth consideration. Folk remedies were mainly for human consumption but some could be considered for natural dog remedies. Many of our ancestors had no access to commercial medicines or doctors. They treated illness and disease in the only way they knew how and that was folk medicine. Many of the old Folk remedies have been passed down from generation to generation and are still in use today. In the mid 1500's Jacques Cartier's sailors were riddled with scurvy and had no food rich in vitamin c to cure it. Lucky for them local Native Indians brewed tea from the needles of white cedar trees. This tea happens to be rich in vitamin c and it literally saved their lives. If you have any Folk remedies you would like to share with us, we would love to hear from you.
